Long Branch Public Schools uses Messages XRE to share important updates with families, including school closings, schedule changes, event reminders, and emergency notifications. The system sends calls, text messages, and emails directly to the contact information we have on file.

To ensure you receive every message, it’s important that your contact information is accurate and up to date. Please review and update your phone numbers and email addresses each year or whenever they change.

To update your contact information, contact your child’s school directly. The school’s main office staff can quickly verify or make any necessary updates to your record.

The Genesis Parent Portal is your secure online window into your child’s education. Through this system, families can easily stay informed and involved in their child’s academic progress.

By logging into the portal, parents and guardians can:

• View grades, report cards, and attendance records

• Check class schedules and teacher information

• Monitor assignments and academic progress

• Receive important messages and updates from the district

• Bring current, signed healthcare provider orders for any treatments or medications to be administered at school.

• Inform the school nurse of any health concerns your child may have.

• Provide all required medications to the school nurse in their original pharmacy containers. Orders must be renewed each school year.

  • If the school does not have the medication and signed paperwork, the nurse cannot administer the medicine.

  • In an emergency, 911 will be called, and your child may be transported to the hospital.

• Asthma Treatment Plans and Allergy Action Plans must be renewed annually. Medications and documentation must be provided before treatment can occur.

• Ensure the school has your most up-to-date phone numbers and address. Please answer calls from the school.

  • Have a backup plan if you are working and your child needs to be picked up due to illness. Identify a grandparent, friend, or trusted neighbor who can help if needed.

• Diabetes Management Plans must be updated each school year. Parents are responsible for providing all necessary diabetes supplies.

• Confirm with your child’s healthcare provider that all required immunizations are current. Missing immunizations may result in your child being excluded from school.

• Establish a healthy sleep routine:

  • Ages 6–12: 9–12 hours per night

  • Ages 13–18: 8–10 hours per night

• Encourage your child to eat breakfast every morning.

• Remind your child to cover coughs and sneezes and wash hands frequently.

• Encourage good hygiene: daily bathing or showering, use of deodorant, and brushing and flossing teeth at least twice daily.

If your child is sick or injured

We encourage you to seek medical treatment when your child is sick and to follow your healthcare providers recommendations about staying home, returning to school, and other activities.  If you aren't sure if you should keep your child home, what is considered a contagious illness, or have other questions, please call the school nurse. The State of New Jersey also a list of illnesses/conditions for which a child is excluded from school which is found at NJ State Exclusion List

You should keep your child home if your child has:

• Fever of 100 or greater
• Vomiting and/or diarrhea
• Rash with itching and/or fever
• Eye infection with redness, itching and/or discharge from the eye
• Any infectious illness that requires antibiotics
• Hospital stay and/or ER visit (please call the nurse for clarification)
• If your child's doctor gives you written authorization to keep your child home for a specified period
• If you are unsure whether to send your child or not, please call the school nurse

Your child can return to school when:

• He/she has been fever free for 24 hours without the use of fever reducing medicine (Tylenol/Motrin)
• He/she has been symptom free for 24 hours without the use of medicine
• He/she has been cleared to come back by a doctor (written documentation from the doctor is necessary)
• He/she has been seen by a doctor and has been on antibiotics for at least 24 hours

A doctor's note is required when:

• A student has been absent for 3 or more consecutive days of school due to illness
• Has a contagious illness
• An injury requiring crutches, a sling, a cast, or other orthopedic injury
• After an emergency room visit or hospital stay
• A student has stitches
• A student has been diagnosed with a concussion
• A student is on antibiotics

Each child enrolling in school must present documentation of New Jersey State required immunizations or a valid medical or religious exemption to vaccines before beginning school.  No child shall be admitted to school unless he/she has completed the required vaccines or has been granted provisional status.  If a student is new to the district, state or country, there may be additional immunizations that are required (for example a test for tuberculosis is often required for students coming from certain countries). In addition to several vaccines when a child is entering preschool and elementary school, there are two additional vaccines that are required when a student is entering 6th grade (Tdap and Meningitis).  Please also note that a flu shot is required for any child under age 5. It is very important to get vaccines when they are due.  Failure to receive vaccines may result in exclusion from school.   If there are any questions on immunization requirements, please reach out to the individual school nurse.
